  49. In my opinion, you're better off starting out on 2m and getting to 
  50. know some of the locals before making the decision to go with 70cm 
  51. (or any other band).  There's a lot to hear and do on 2m.  Lots of 
  52. fine people to meet, lots of community service things you can help 
  53. with, lots of discussion to learn from and (this is significant) 
  54. lots of good second hand equipment to borrow/buy/trade.

  61. The HTX-202 is a great value Bill.  I own two HTs, an HTX-202 and
  62. a fine icom dual bander.  The HTX-202 goes everywhere with me.  The
  63. icom gets used when I need 70cm access or when I want to listen out 
  64. of band.  I know several people that own HTX-202s and they all like 
  65. them a lot.  The HTX-202 is made with a very narrow front end that 
  66. rejects out of band signals.  -ALL- other contemporary radios that 
  67. I'm aware of have a broad coverage receiver that allows out-of-band 
  68. reception.  They can be used as low performance scanners, but that 
  69. capability comes at the expense of succeptability to interference 
  70. from out of band signals (high power paging transmitters, for example).
  71. The HTX-202 is also a lot more rugged than the icom.  I bought the 
  72. Tandy Service Plan (TSP) for the radio just in case I get too casual 
  73. with it though.  Icom doesn't offer one and I've spent over $100 in
  74. repairs that the Shack would have covered.

  94. Hmmm... I could have swore that the Repeater Directory Lists the
  95. bandplans and suggested simplex freqs for all bands.

  97. The "calling" freq on 440 is 446.60 simplex.

  99. If I remember right, generally accepted simplex freqs are spaced 25 KHz
  100. apart starting at 446.00.

  197. weekly keps as a SINGLE file, attached to a message, through the Dallas
  198. Remote Imaging Group, out to Internet, and to Compuserve for those folks
  199. without a gateway or UUCP capability for Internet.

  201. Files sent through the Internet can be attached to a text message,
  202. but must be 'decoded' with a utility called UUDECODE.COM.
  203.  
  204. I have uploaded to Compuserve (HAMNET-Amateur Sats) the program
  205. UUDECODE.ZIP, which contains uudecode.com and uudecode.doc.
  206.  
  207. Do the following from Compuserve.
  208.  
  209. 1.  Download the program uudecode.zip
  210.  
  211. 2.  SAVE this messages as a DOS file  (i.e.  drigtest.txt)
  212.  
  213. 3.  You will notice a funny attachement at the end of this
  214. message, which is an actual file that has been uuencoded and
  215. attached to this message for transmission through the net.
  216.  
  217. 4.  run the program as follows:

  219.       uudecode.com   filename.ext  (if filename was  drigtest.txt)
